School of Business in Senica (SSOŠP)
Why students choose it
- A practical focus: dual education with placements in real companies on the business track, plus business simulations, projects and competitions.
- Solid IT facilities: several refurbished computer rooms and a dedicated CISCO lab for network technologies; the school is listed as an IT Akadémia partner.
- A small school with an individual approach — about 250 pupils, with teachers close to their students, which makes settling in easier for an international teenager.
- A maturita diploma after four years opens both the job market and Slovak universities, with no further recognition of the certificate needed.
- Senica is a quiet town in the Trnava region: rent and daily costs are noticeably lower than in Bratislava, and the capital is about an hour and a half away.
- Extras beyond the curriculum: 3D modelling and printing, graphic design, English, music, excursions and school projects.
Faculties and programmes
Economic and Administrative Services in Business (6327 M)
A track for students interested in economics, entrepreneurship, finance and administration. Subjects include economics, accounting, management, marketing and the basics of law, along with business correspondence and document handling. The school offers this programme within the dual education system, with part of the training taking place in real companies.
Programmes:
- Length: 4 years, full-time, taught in Slovak
- What the diploma gives: a certificate with maturita recognised in Slovakia and the EU — a route into office and corporate roles or on to a business university
- What you learn: business communication, managing business processes, accounting and the basics of running your own company
- Dual education with company placements is available
Information and Digital Technologies (2569 M)
The IT track: programming, robotics, web development, computer graphics, video and multimedia work. The emphasis is on hands-on practice in modern classrooms, with a dedicated CISCO lab for network technologies. The programme has been running at the school since 1 September 2024.
Programmes:
- Length: 4 years, full-time, taught in Slovak
- What the diploma gives: a certificate with maturita and core IT competencies — a route into junior digital roles or on to a technical university
- What you learn: programming, applied software, graphics and multimedia, the basics of network technologies
- Facilities: refurbished computer rooms and a CISCO lab
What the diploma gives you next
Both programmes end with the state maturita examination. A Slovak certificate with maturita is recognised across the EU and lets graduates apply to Slovak universities without any further recognition of the document — for example to the business programmes of the University of Economics in Bratislava or to IT programmes at technical universities. Graduates who do not continue to university enter the job market with a specialisation already in hand, administrative or digital.
How international students apply
- Application deadlines
Applications to secondary school are filed through the pupil's primary school in the ePrihláška electronic system. The Ministry of Education (minedu.sk) publishes the overall deadlines and exam windows for each academic year: ordinary programmes such as these sit their exams in spring, the school runs a first and a second term, and an extra round is announced if places remain. The school publishes its exact dates and admission criteria on its website and in EduPage — check them before you apply.
- Entrance exams
- Under the criteria of earlier years — two written tests of 60 minutes each: Slovak language and literature, and mathematics at primary school level.
- Applicants with a grade average up to 1.50 and no grade 'good' were exempt from the exam — a rule from earlier years, so check the current criteria.
- The final score combines primary school results, the exam result and achievements in olympiads and competitions.
- If an applicant cannot attend on the scheduled day for a serious reason, the head teacher sets an alternative date — the school must be notified the same day.
- Documents
- an application in the ePrihláška system, filed through the primary school;
- school reports and the certificate of completing 9 grades, with an official translation into Slovak;
- a decision recognising the foreign education document for the purpose of continuing studies, issued by the regional school administration office (regionálny úrad školskej správy) under Act No. 422/2015 Coll.;
- documents of the pupil and the legal guardian, plus proof of legal residence in Slovakia;
- health requirements apply to some vocational fields — check with the school.
International applicants apply on general terms. How the 9-grade certificate is recognised is covered in the article on recognising a school certificate; the full route is on the admission after 9th grade page. Choosing the school, documents, visa, accommodation and contact with the school — turnkey admission.
Based on ssosp.sk, sssp.edupage.org and minedu.sk as of 08/2026 — confirm the current cycle's deadlines and criteria before applying.
Dormitory and costs
According to the school directory stredneskoly.sk, pupils who travel in from other towns can be accommodated in a school dormitory, and meals are served in the school canteen, which offers a choice of several dishes. The school's own website does not describe a dormitory, so check availability and the cost of accommodation and meals for 2026/2027 directly with the school.
Senica is a small town in the Trnava region: rent, transport and everyday costs are noticeably lower than in the capital. You can estimate the yearly budget in the cost calculator.
Who this school suits
SSOŠP is the option for a teenager who cares more about a profession and practical work than about the academic load of a grammar school. Four years give both a maturita certificate and a specialisation — administrative and business, or digital. If the goal is strong mathematics, English at C1 or an international diploma, look instead at Jur Hronec Grammar School in Bratislava.
- Language: teaching and the entrance exams are in Slovak, so start the language 8–12 months before applying.
- Size: about 250 pupils — easier to settle into than a large school in the capital.
- Town: Senica is calmer and cheaper than Bratislava, but offers fewer part-time jobs and less going on — worth discussing with your teenager in advance.
- What comes next: a maturita certificate opens Slovak universities — see the admission after 11th grade page for how that works.
